As you begin to get clarity about the creative dream you’ve been wanting to achieve in your life or business – you’ll also need to expand your mindset. Everyone has to work through mental and emotional blocks as they move forward in their creativity, life, and business-expansion process. Some blocks come as up as concerns about not having what it takes to succeed, feeling undeserving, or worrying about not having enough talent. Left unchecked, these thoughts and beliefs will threaten your ability to move forward with actually doing what it takes to achieve your creative dream.
Learn how to stop those thoughts from stopping you in six steps.
1. Slow down and take some time to really listen to your thoughts. Record them (write them down in a journal) so you can read over them.
2. Identify what feelings these thoughts evoke. (eg. “I can’t do this marketing thing.” Provokes feelings of discouragement)
3. Re-write the thought to say something more truthful. “Marketing can be difficult, but I can learn a few steps and take them one at a time.” – will lessen feelings of discouragement
4. Produce a new mental movie. Take some time to see yourself feeling more at ease, picture yourself successfully using one marketing tool (for example) – use details in your mind-video.
Smells, sights, sounds, emotions . . . really allow yourself to see the positive action.
5. Take action. Take one step toward your goal (read an article, write an article, post on Facebook, or go to one networking meeting) to regain momentum.
6. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Keep doing this thought swapping exercise and taking action until you have mastered it and feel more confident about shifting your own mental/emotional state.
If you have a deep desire complete that creative dream or to expand your business and be able to serve more people with your services or products, you have what it takes to succeed when you harness your thoughts and take action. Be consistent about taking care of the powerful brain God gave you and nurture your mental/emotional self, then, when the going gets tough, you’ll have what it takes to whip those thoughts into shape, banish self-defeating beliefs and move forward to achieve your creative dream.
