God is Just
The definition of “just” according to an online dictionary* is as follows: adjective - guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness, done or made according to principle; equitable; proper.
Lately, I look around and see evidence of a lack of true and proper justice. It seems that people in positions of power are getting away with all sorts of horrible crimes while innocent folks (according to the true law) are being accused and attacked by corrupt governmental agencies. It seems that people are getting away with calling evil good and calling good evil, just as the Bible foretold.
Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”
God reveals to us that those who condemn the righteous and justify the wicked are an abomination. Proverbs 17:15 “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.”
I would like to bring to your awareness to the very good news for all of humankind that God reveals to us through Scripture about His very character. God is just and justice will occur when it is God’s good and perfect timing.
Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.”
Speaking to the nation of Israel in Isaiah 42:1-4, God reveals His just nature: “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. “He will not cry out or raise His voice, Nor make His voice heard in the street. “A bruised reed He will not break And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not be disheartened or crushed Until He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law.”
God exhorts us to be just as He is just. In Micah 6:8 it says, “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?”
God is not swayed by bribes as humans are and He does what is perfect and good in all situations. Deuteronomy 10:17-18 says, “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe. He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.”
Jeremiah 22:3 instructs God’s people as follows: “Thus says the Lord, “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”
Psalm 89:14 describes God like this: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.”
Isaiah 61:8 also discusses God’s love of justice: “For I, the Lord, love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; And I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.”
As we grapple with the evil and the lack of justice currently displayed on earth, we can take comfort that God will handle it. In Romans 12:19 we are reminded: “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
Do not despair when you see unjust behavior from our fellow humans. God will restore righteousness and justice at the end of the age. For those who have received Jesus Christ as our Savior, we can count on the Lord to provide for us, protect us, and care for us while we are living in the midst of evil and unjust situations. The evil will not continue one minute longer than God allows. We can look forward to the glorious hope of Jesus Christ’s return and the exile of evil.
Take heed and tell anyone who will listen about the Good News of Jesus Christ because a day will come when God will bring judgment and justice. Acts 17:30-31 says, “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
Jesus is “the Man” who has been appointed, was raised from the dead, and will eventually judge mankind based on what they believed about Him.
Praise be to Jesus Christ for providing salvation to any who will receive Him.
