Attributes of God: God is King

God is King

It probably goes without saying, but God, our Great and Awesome Creator, is King over all.  What a comfort that is when we see this world going sideways and in a complete melt-down.  God still rules and reigns and His plan is good, unfolding in the exact way that He foretold so that we can finally come under His actual, perfect rule and reign here on earth (as it is in Heaven).

The dictionary defines “king” in the following way:  “A male sovereign ruler of an independent state or people, esp. one who inherits the position by right of birth; a male monarch. Also: the head or chief of a territory, tribe, city state, etc., having the status of such a ruler.”

In contrast, God is indeed a sovereign ruler who has always been and will always be King over ALL.  He didn’t inherit His Kingship, nor does He die and pass along His Kingship to a replacement.  It’s good to know we have a forever King who is perfect in every way.

Revelation 19:16 says this, “On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Psalm 47:6-7 says, “Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!”

Scripture tells us the truth about God being King forever in Psalm 29:10 : “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.”

It is a good and beautiful thing to behold God as King.  Both the Israelites and later, the Gentiles in are promised to see God, the King.

Isaiah 33:17  says this to the Israelites, “Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; They will behold a far-distant land.”

Philippians 2:9-11 shows us that Jesus is King over all things as declared by the Heavenly Father. “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The Apostle Paul who gave instructions to Timothy about how to properly minister, reveals Jesus Christ as King in 1 Timothy 6:13-15: “I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,”

Next time you hear of an earthly king (or any person who holds a lot of power), remind yourself that God is our King and He will rule with perfect goodness, love, justice, and mercy for all time and over all things.  One day, we will no longer deal with corrupt elections, corrupt presidents, and corrupt prime ministers.  Hallelujah!
