Help in the Midst of Crippling Grief

When grief strikes your heart and mind, it can feel crippling, even suffocating,
as if your heart will shatter into a million pieces with each breath.  When I
thought that my husband, Andy, was going to die, I could not eat and each
step felt like such a huge effort.  I would awaken at 3:00 A.M. after only two or
three hours of sleep, unable to sleep any more.  It was during these times that
I turned to prayer, begging God for mercy upon Andy and I as well as for
mercy upon my Dad and Mom (who experienced hospitalization at the same
time as Andy).

As the weeks wore on and there was no improvement in Andy's condition, I
realized that I was going to have to learn how to live with the grief and anxiety
for a while and so I dug even deeper into God's Word looking for comfort and
help.

If you are going through, or have been through such emotional grief, then you
know how very difficult it can be to put one foot in front of the other.  Here are
some excellent passages of Scripture that brought me through the challenging
months.

Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed
in spirit."

Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and
lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and
my burden is light."

Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

John 16:22 - "So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again
and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy."

Revelation 21:4 - "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death
shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

When you walk through grief, let the Presence of God's Holy Spirit wash over
your soul with His peace, His power, and His goodness to bring you through
even the most difficult loss.  Our Heavenly Father loves us so very much and
He is faithful to bring us through this earthly life full of trials and tribulations.
He will use everything for your good and His glory.  If you have placed your
belief in Jesus Christ, then one day, you will see Jesus face to face and will
remain with Him, in glory, for eternity.
