Not only do we tell ourselves lies (sometimes unknowingly), but the enemy of our soul and his minions (Satan and his evil spirits) tell us lies too. A really good lie has a way of sounding and feeling true, but it is not. It might be 1% lie wrapped in 99% truth, but it is still a lie nonetheless. The problem with the lies we believe is that they destroy our spiritual, emotional, and even physical health. They destroy our relationships. Worst of all, they harm our relationship with God.
There are so many lies that are pretty common to humankind but I cannot possibly cover them all. I want to call out the two lies that have been on my heart and mind the most because of their ability to harm our relationship with God. These are the lies I am highlighting in this email/article:
Lie #1 – “This terrible suffering that I am experiencing is evidence that God really doesn’t care about me.”
Lie #2 – “This terrible suffering that I am experiencing is evidence that God really is not good. In fact, God is mean and He wants me to suffer.”
Let’s have a look at what God says to us through His Word that He so lovingly provided for us. It will help us understand Who He is and what the Truth is.
Truths to counter all three of the above lies – “God loves me even when I cannot feel it. God has proven His goodness and His love through His beautiful creation, and through the painful sacrifice of His Only Son, Jesus Christ on the cross to make a way for me to be in Heaven with Him for eternity.”
“This terrible suffering is temporary and God is allowing it for some currently unknown purpose for my ultimate, eternal good and for His glory.”
We can say these truthful statements based on many, many Scriptures, but here are four that are powerful:
Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Luke 12:6-7 says, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
Take heart, God is always loving and good, even when our lives are not so good. This earthly life is a mere blip on a radar screen compared to the glorious eternity we will experience in the beautiful and glorious Presence of our Heavenly Father. Hold tightly to what God has told us in His Word when these sneaky lies come to play around in your head. Banish these lies by quoting God’s Truths and sing worship/praise songs to counter the enemy. Don’t give the enemy, or your own fleshly mind, an inch. Stand strong on God’s Truths!
