Why You Can't Ignore God's Promise of Purpose

Living out your life on this planet can be a tough assignment at times. Between your own fallen nature (your flesh) and the enemy's tactics, it can be really hard to remember that God has a unique purpose for you and your life.

It is crucial to remind yourself about God's promise to give your life purpose so that you don't fall into an emotional slump, or even worse, fall into apathy.

There are so many attacks coming against our mind these days, that we will be wise to remember the Truth about our earthly and eternal purpose.

The best way to get to the heart of truth about your purpose is to look at what God says about it. God gave us His inerrant Word, throughout the pages of Holy Writ (The Bible) so that we can be set free by the Truth.

What does God's Word actually say about your purpose? Let's start by taking a look at Ephesians 2:10. It says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." God created you with a unique personality, gifts, talents, and good works He knew you could accomplish.

Some examples of these good works might be using your communication skills to convey kindness and clarity to others who are struggling with hurt and confusion, using your talent to make art, write, or speak in a way to encourage others.

People who are more introverted are good at developing deep, one-on-one relationships with a small number of people. They are usually more easily able to listen to others, take in their words, and ponder them before giving a response. This is the recipe for a wonderful friend.

People who are more extroverted are good at talking about many different subjects with many different people. They are usually good at making people feel welcome and included. Both the introvert and extrovert have slightly differing "good works" that the Lord has prepared for them.

There are many examples of people in the Scriptures that God worked through in unique ways.

King David had unique skills, gifts, and a unique heart. He was called, "a man after God's own heart". Scripture tells us that God's purposes were brought forth in David in Acts 13:36 - "Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed." God worked through David's unique life which started out as a shepherd boy turned warrior, turned hunted man (by King Saul) turned King . . . .

The Apostle Paul had a unique upbringing as one who was deeply trained by the Jewish religious elites of that day. He knew the Scriptures like the back of his hand. After his dramatic conversion on the Road to Damascus where Jesus appeared to him and told him to stop persecuting the Christians (and thus, Jesus), Paul was able to take all that knowledge of the Old Testament, and of Jesus and teach both Jews and Gentiles about how Jesus fulfilled the law. Paul also wrote many of the Books found in the New Testament.

We see a theme of God using the upbringing, education, skills, gifts, and personalities of all sorts of people all throughout Scripture to walk out God's purposes.

In a nutshell, your ultimate purpose is this: to use whatever God has given you to be His ambassador on earth. To share the Good News, to show kindness to the weak, to encourage and strengthen other believers, to help the people God puts in your path.

To drive home the idea of God's promise to give you a purpose, I have a few more verses to share:

Exodus 9:16 - "But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth."

Micah 6:8 - "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

Proverbs 20:5 - "The purpose in a man's heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out."

I hope you are encouraged to continue to discover new ways to walk out your unique purpose and God's plan for your life. It is an exciting adventure to discover new ways that God can use your unique blend of traits to proclaim His Good News and to shine His light to the people in your life.

Have an awesome 2025!
