A Story of Healing and Truth

Over the years as a therapist, I’ve had the honor of sitting with many people who were weighed down by sadness, anxiety, shame, and guilt. Some carried burdens that began long ago—unhealed wounds from childhood that quietly shaped the way they saw themselves. I often noticed that beneath their pain were deeply rooted lies: “I’m not good enough.” “I’ll never measure up.” “I’m unlovable.”

As I listened and guided others through their healing, I realized something humbling—many of their struggles mirrored my own. God began to show me that I, too, had places in my heart that still needed His gentle touch. There were moments when my clients’ stories stirred old emotions I thought I’d already worked through. I would find myself journaling afterward, pouring my thoughts and tears onto the page, asking God to help me see through His eyes instead of through my fears.

What I discovered, again and again, was that real healing didn’t come just from processing feelings—it came from aligning them with the truth of God’s Word. When I began to apply Scripture to my thoughts, the lies started to lose their power. Still, it wasn’t instant. Some truths had to be repeated daily, even hourly. I would whisper them, write them, pray them, and paint them until my heart finally began to believe:

I am a child of God.
My value isn’t based on what I do or how others see me.
I am loved because He created me, redeemed me, and calls me His own.

Little by little, the old shame and fear were washed away—replaced by peace, purpose, and the steady assurance that I belong to Him. And now, when I help others on their journey toward healing, I do so not from a place of perfection, but from a place of grace. Because I know firsthand how patient and powerful God’s truth can be when we let it rewrite the story of our hearts.
