God's Promises Give us Comfort

I have a book called, “Precious Bible Promises of God” and I often return to it to look up a promise of God that I can claim for specific situations.  The thought popped into my mind that many of us could benefit from intentionally reminding ourselves of God’s promises that apply to us.  This has prompted an idea for me to go through 8 Bible promises, one by one, and write about it, and make an art piece about it in my art journal.

Today I am focusing on writing about the promise of God to give us comfort.  I know I can always use the comfort of God and especially as Christmas draws closer and I see the condition of the world – wars, rumors of wars, greed, deception, tyrannical governments, and people grieving over lost loved ones.  With all that is going on, I feel it is even more important to focus on the promise of God’s comfort.

Are you being afflicted in some way?  Pay attention to this particular Bible promise in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

And this verse found in Psalm 119:50 speaks to the afflicted too.  “This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”

Are you grieving a loss of some kind, whether it be the passing of a loved one or the loss of a job or a way of life?  God has a special promise for those who mourn.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4

Are you weary?  Exhausted?  Working hard to eke out a living and keep up with the cost of living? Matthew 11:28-30  is for you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

There are many more Bible verses about the promise of God’s comfort but I’ll stop here for today.  If you have a particular Bible verse you love that speaks to God’s promise of comfort, look it up now and write it down.  Read it to yourself any time you feel the need and know that Jesus is your Comforter and He wants to carry your burdens.  Lay them down.  Lay down your burdens at Jesus’ beautiful feet.

I invite you to tune in to my YouTube Channel, or my FaceBook Page and watch my video of the painting I will work on in my art journal based on the promise of God’s comfort.
